Clare Valley Riesling

Riesling is Clare's signature, and it makes up most of the white wines in this collection. Young wines are bone dry and zesty, with lime, green apple and floral notes. With age they turn golden and develop honeyed, toasty flavours while keeping their freshness.

Clare winemakers also changed how Australia seals its wine. In 2000 a group of them bottled their Riesling under screwcap together, and the rest of the country soon followed.

Shiraz, Cabernet and Malbec

The reds are just as serious. Clare Valley Shiraz is rich yet structured, with dark plum, a hint of mint and eucalyptus, and firmer tannin than many South Australian styles. Browse more in our Shiraz range.

Cabernet Sauvignon does well here too, often blended with Malbec. The Cabernet Malbec blend has deep roots in Clare and adds juicy, perfumed fruit to Cabernet's structure.

Clare Valley Producers in Our Range

Jim Barry is our largest Clare producer, a family winery famous for its Riesling and for The Armagh Shiraz. Pikes, another family name, is known for Riesling from the Polish Hill River.

Serving and Food Pairing

Serve Riesling well chilled and the reds at 16 to 18 degrees. Young Riesling is made for seafood, Thai salads and anything with lime and chilli. Clare Shiraz and Cabernet suit lamb, barbecued beef and hearty casseroles.

What is the difference between Watervale and Polish Hill River Riesling?

Both are subregions of the Clare Valley. Watervale has red soils over limestone and gives a more generous, floral Riesling. Polish Hill River has harder slate soils and a tighter, more mineral style that often needs time in bottle.
