Yering Station Wines: Yarra Valley Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Shiraz Viognier

Some wineries carry a whole region's story in the glass. Yering Station's story began in 1838 as Victoria's first vineyard, and today it crafts classic cool climate wines in the Yarra Valley, about 45 kilometres east of Melbourne.

From silky Pinot Noir and bright Chardonnay to a spicy Shiraz Viognier, these are wines of purity, balance and detail, shaped by winter rain and cool, dry summers.

Who Owns Yering Station?

Yering Station is owned by the Rathbone family, who bought the estate in 1996. It sits within Rathbone Family Wines, alongside its sister wineries Mount Langi Ghiran and Xanadu.

The history reaches much further back. The Scottish-born Ryrie brothers planted the first vines here in 1838, Swiss-Italian immigrant Paul de Castella acquired the site in 1850, and the original winery building followed in 1859.

Wines from the estate were awarded a Grand Prix at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1889. Today five vineyard sites across Yarra Glen and Coldstream grow 12 grape varieties, including the Yarra Valley classics Chardonnay and, of course, Pinot Noir.
