Tasting Notes: Medium depth, dark cherry red in colour. The aromatics of this unique wine are bold and rich, with nuances of panforte, baking spices such as cloves, warm summer fruits, kirsch and a savoury note from the French oak. The palate is fresh and lively, plush yet structural. Flavours such as freshly picked plums, mocha and chocolate. Savoury and supple with great length. This genuinely unique and interesting wine celebrates Merlot as one of the world’s greatest varieties. The Smith and Hooper Reserve Merlot will cellar for over fifteen years and be drinking at its best after five years of age when it is released.

Serving Temperature: 16–18°C – best served slightly below room temperature to showcase the rich fruit, oak complexity and smooth tannins.

Decanting: Recommended – decant for 30–60 minutes before serving to allow the wine to open and reveal its layers of plum, chocolate, spice and oak. It can also be enjoyed by allowing it to breathe in the glass.

Cellaring Potential: Drinking beautifully now, but has the structure to continue developing. Suitable for cellaring until approximately 2030–2035+ under ideal conditions.

Food Pairing: Pairs well with roast lamb, slow-cooked beef, roast chicken, mushroom dishes, lentil and walnut loaf, rich pasta dishes, and aged cheeses such as vintage cheddar.
