Bright ruby red. Immediately inviting with ripe cherries, crushed florals, perfume and red confectionary. With some time in the glass, rustic notes of spice and earth emerge. Medium weighted, showing a medley of fresh red fruits up front. Cherries and raspberries on centre stage. The acid line is taught and lively, reminiscent of pomegranate and cranberry. Finishing with great length and balance.

Sangiovese is an absolute knock out wine with anything Italian; pizza and pasta of all sorts, tomato-based sauces, and all of those rustic garden herbs work beautifully. Mushrooms also have a particular affinity with Sangiovese — a creamy mushroom risotto is a match made in heaven.
