Tasting Notes: A crimson purple tincture hinting at a certain pertness. Blueberries on the cane, complete with their brushed, crushed foliage, thus realised in the picking. Hints of confectionery and top notes of just ripe raspberries. It dives into undercurrents of beetroot and rhubarb, but then soars towards cherries, roses, violets and plums. Principally aromatic, yet hints of oak’s bouquet loiter. Blackberry and blueberry and finely grated dark chocolate. A generous yet textural red wine; long and fresh. The plush tannins aren’t pushovers by any means; they come not as single spies but in battalions, as the usurper, Claudius, - a great merlot admirer - says in Hamlet. The acidity emerging from the middle palate then sweeps through, keeping everything ‘en pointe’.
Serving Temperature: 16–18°C (room temp, slightly cool is ideal).
Decanting: Optional – 30–60 mins helps soften tannins and open aromatics.
Cellaring Potential: Drink now.
Food Pairing: Red meats: Beef steaks, lamb, slow-cooked beef. Pasta with tomato or meat sauce, lasagne. Roast chicken, duck. Mushroom dishes, lentil or eggplant-based meals.
