Once called Tokay, this luscious fortified Muscadelle has all the hallmarks of rich toffee and butterscotch with a balance on the palate that is synonymous with Rutherglen fortified.

Appearance: Deep amber to burnt sienna with green-tinged edges – a sign of extended oxidative ageing. Very thick and syrupy in the glass, with pronounced legs indicating high sugar and alcohol content.

Aroma: Exceptionally aromatic and complex. Notes of toffee, molasses, cold tea, burnt sugar, raisin, spice, dried figs, and caramelised orange peel. Undertones of oak and rancio (nutty, oxidative character).

Palate: Unctuous, velvety, and full-bodied. Richly layered with sticky date pudding, treacle, brandy-soaked fruitcake, dried apricots, spiced nuts, and coffee toffee. Balanced sweetness with fresh acidity to prevent it from being cloying. Long, warming finish with lingering flavours of burnt caramel and walnuts.

Serving Temperature: Lightly Chilled: 12–14°C

Decanting: Not necessary This wine is ready to drink and does not benefit from decanting. Being oxidative by nature, it is stable and can last weeks open if stored properly.

Ideal with: Desserts: Sticky date pudding, pecan pie, crème Brulé, Christmas cake. Cheese: Blue cheeses (like Stilton or Roquefort), aged cheddar, or Gorgonzola. Nuts: Glazed walnuts, roasted pecans. Dark chocolate or coffee-based desserts.
